Kia ora! I’m Dan Gillgren — born and raised in New Zealand, now based in Australia, where I split my time between technology and the stage.
By day, I’m an IT professional with years of experience keeping systems running smoothly and solving the kinds of problems that make most people want to throw their computers out the window. I enjoy the challenge of turning complex tech into something that actually works for people.
But if you really want to know what makes me tick, it’s theatre. I’ve had the privilege of performing in shows ranging from classics like The Importance of Being Earnest to musicals like Cabaret and The Hot Mikado. More recently, I’ve stepped into roles such as Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey and Randle P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Being on stage — or writing for it — is where I feel most alive.
I’m also a playwright, currently developing original work that combines humour, heart, and just a touch of the unexpected. Storytelling has always been part of who I am, and theatre gives me a space to share those stories with others.
When I’m not working or rehearsing, you’ll probably find me swimming laps, experimenting in the kitchen (slow-cooked pork ribs are a speciality), or going off on an adventure with my son Jackson .
This site is a place to share my creative projects, connect with fellow theatre lovers, and maybe even spark some new collaborations.
Thanks for stopping by — I’m glad you’re here.
